My favourite place in our country is in Bangalore itself. It's the Planetarium. It has an amazing world in it. We can see the stars, the planets, the moon and the sun .....in short, the whole universe sitting in a comfy chair for 30 minutes. It looked so real that I felt like I was in space and I could touch the stars.My little brother, John, even tried jumping several times to catch a few stars so that he could carry them home in his pocket.It's truly a wonderful experience and a place you must visit on your trip to Bangalore.

I think Singapore has some very interesting places and cuisines.Places that I like to chill out during weekends are places like VivoCity, Junction 8, Ang Mo Kio Hub, and many more. VivoCity is Singapore's largest, and definitely one of the most popular, shopping mall! It's also an one-stop entertainment centre with international shops and luxurious brands available there. To me, it is the hot spot for tourists and locals alike. With a great variety of food, culture, entertainment and more, Singapore is indeed a nation of diversity! My favourite food is Hokkien Mee and Char Siew Rice. There is even good western food being served here. You can join the locals at our well-known hawker centers which offer good food at reasonable prices, or you can go to air-conditioned food courts or restaurants that also serve great food. The food that is sold there is a little bit pricier though. So, come and visit our country, and have an enjoyable time here!

Hey Liang,
India gained Independence from the British on 15 August on 1947. Since our Independence, India has developed so much. Our national anthem is JANA GANA MANA which was written by the great poet Rabindra NathTagore. Our national song is VANDE MATARAM. Mahatma Gandhi is known as the father of our country.
New Delhi is capital of our country. All the Central government offices are located at New Delhi. India has five important cities, namely Delhi, Kolkata ,Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai. India is the seventh largest country in the world. It is located in the northern hemisphere. Kolkata is the largest city in our country. There are 28 states in our country.

Hi! How are you? We are fine here. We are eagerly waiting for your arrival. This is for Task 5. India gained independence on 15th August 1947.Our national flag was hoisted for the first time at Red fort in New Delhi. The Indian flag consists of three colours. Saffron at the top stands for courage and Sacrifice. White in the middle stands for truth and peace. Green at the bottom stands for Prosperity. The Asoka Chakra with 24 spokes in the middle is the wheel of law. Our National emblem is taken from the Asoka Pillar at Sarnath. It consists of four lions standing back to back. Below the lions is a base on which a bull, a horse, an elephant and a lion are carved, separated from each other by wheels. The entire structure is on a lotus. Our National Anthem was written by the great poet Rabindaranath Tagore. The National Anthem also stands for the unity of our country. It must take exactly 52 seconds when the national anthem is sang or played. Our national flower is Lotus, national bird is Peacock and national is Tiger. The most wonderful sights in India are Taj Mahal, Qutab Minar, Buland, Dharwaza, Panch Mahal,Asoka Pillar, Red Fort, Mysore Palace, Kanyakumari and etc. The Himalayas which is situated in Northern part of India are the highest ranges in the world. Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world. The Taj Mahal is one of the seven wonders of the world. The whole world looks at it with wonder. Shahjahan built the Taj Mahal on the behalf of Mumtaz Mahal.

Today, I would like to tell you more about Singapore- its history, places of interest, food etc. Singapore was founded by Sir Stamford Raffles in 1819. Singapore was established as a trading station and its policy of free trade attracted merchants from all over Asia as well as the US and the Middle East. Singapore used to be a British colony but on 9 August 1965, it became an independent republic. It is made up of not just one island but a main island with 63 surrounding islets. The main island has a total land area of 682 square km. Singapore has grown into a thriving centre of commerce and industry. It is one of the busiest parts in the world and it is also one of the world's major oil refining and distribution centres, Singapore's strategic location and excellent facilities and infrastructure contribute to its success as a leading destination for both business and pleasure.
Singapore is the food capital of Asia. You can find all kinds of cuisine here, Chinese, Indian, Malay, Indonesian, Western etc. Some of the local favourites include Hainanese Chicken Rice, Chilli Crab, Laksa, Fried Kway Teow, Satay, etc. You must try some of these dishes if you come to Singapore. There are many places of interest that should not be missed either when visiting Singapore. For example Sentosa is an island of sun and fun. There are clear beaches, wax museum, Sky Tower, Underwater World World that you should visit when you are at Sentosa. Our zoological gardens is also a 'must go' for visitors, not to mention other places like Chinatown, Bird Park, Botanical Gardens etc.

ABOUT A DAY IN OUR LIVES

Thanks a lot for the details about your day in your school. Hope you are doing well, I am fine here. Now I will tell you how I spend a day in school. A normal school day starts at 8:00 morning with a prayer in the class. Only on Tuesday and Friday we have our Morning Assembly. Everyday we have 9 periods with a short break and lunch break. During the day we study several subjects like English, Hindi, science, computers, etc. My favourite subject is Maths taken by my favourite teacher Mary mam. We have periods which are called “Zero Periods”, they are the activity periods of the day when we do some dance; music; games etc. Our school day ends at 3:00pm with a small prayer when we all thank God for giving us a wonderful day. Then we all form a line and climb our respective buses and are ready to go home.

My typical school day is like this. My father wakes me up at 6.30 a.m, and I get dressed and am ready for school by around 7:35 am. I then have my breakfast in about 15 minutes, and step out at around 8 for school. I reach there in 10 minutes, and the bell rings at 8:20 am. After our prayers, our periods begin. Each period is for about 40 minutes, and we have 8 periods a day. We have 3 periods, and then we have a break for about 10-15 minutes. Then we have 3 more periods, we have our lunch break, which lasts for about 40 minutes. After 2 more periods, I leave for home by around 2:40 pm.

I hope you are getting my emails. I am just wondering how much time you spend in your school. Well, I spent about 6 hours in my school. Our recess, which is half-and-hour, is included in the 6 hours. Sometimes, we have to stay back for extra-classes like remedial and Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs). In Anderson, we have two sessions; the morning session and afternoon session. Pupils from Primary 3,4,5 and 6 are in the morning session, which is from 7.30 to 1 p.m. Pupils from Primary 1 and 2 are in afternoon session, which is from 12p.m. to 6p.m. In your school, do you've to stay back for CCAs? How long do you have to stay back? How many hours do you spend in your school? Bye!!!

I wake up at 5am to take my school bus which arrives at 6am and I reach school at 7am.
The subjects we learn are English, Maths, Mother tongue, Science, Music, Art and Craft, Social Studies, Health education, Library and Physical Education. Recess is from 10am 10.30am but we must assemble in the hall by 10.25am. How long is your recess? We finish school at 1pm. How about you? The CCAs available in our school are Drama, Pottery, Scouts, Brownies, Science Club, IT Cub, Green Cub, Art Cub, Guitar Cub, Librarian, Gymnastics, Track and Field, Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, Badminton and Chinese Dance.

We have a General Knowledge sir whose name is Jeffrey Jacob. He is one of my most favourite teachers. He takes a period once a week. What a pity! By the way, I'm in the fifth standard.

I want to share a few things about my school. Before our class starts, usually we have assembly on Tuesdays and Fridays. Our school starts at 8.15 In the morning and goes on till 4 in the afternoon.. The first period is Maths and then Hindi(national language). For the Hindi class we have to go to another room. Every Thursday, we have French classes and we have started the alphabets. We are having our lunch in the school. We have different kinds of activities like games, dance, library, music etc. In the games period, we have different kinds of games like badminton, cricket, football etc. Our computer teacher takes us to the computer lab for the computer session. Hi Umar, We have 32 systems in our schools senior lab. In the junior lab, there are 30 computers. We go to the lab on Wednesdays. We use certain software like Notepad to type the lessons or question and answers, MS Excel to type the names of friends and their phone numbers, MS Paint to draw some pictures, and MS Word to create our names in different patterns using clipart and etc.

In school, when the teachers want to teach us IT, we will have it in class. There will be 2 teachers teaching. Sometimes we learn Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Email and others. Sometimes if we have to take an IT test, we will stay back after school for 2 hours. And when we learn IT skills, we use laptops.

Hi Punith,
I am going to share with you how our school uses IT for teaching and learning. There is a computer in class for the teacher in the conduct of the lessons. My teacher makes use of the computer to show us slide shows. At times, she goes to different internet websites to show us new information.
We have computer lessons once a week, on every Tuesdays. There are 4 computers lab in our school, with one lab on each level. Besides the computer labs in our school, there are about 20 computers in a place near the dental clinic called Cafe1766. Pupils are allowed to visit the cafe during recess on the days they are assigned to. They can play games or do work there. All the computer labs and Cafe1766 are air-conditioned.
We usually make use of the computers to do blogging, work and research for new knowledge. I enjoy the computer lessons very much. I wish you could tell me whether you have robotics, blogging, IT for homework, how many times you have IT a week and if you have computers in your class. I also wish to know about your ambition. Anyway, my full name is Liang Jun Onn Mervin and you can call me Mervin. Bye!

Hi, welcome to our blog!
This blog is to commemorate the 1st collaboration between St Peter's School in India & Anderson Primary in Singapore.

Currently, we are working on a project with our friends from St Peter's via the email. It's really cool to know that emails can be used to make friends who are on another part of the same planet :) The excitement is really building up for us as we look forward to meeting our friends from India when we visit them in India from 31 August to 5 September 2007.

Stay close to our blog. There will be new post every week from either pupils from St Peter's or Anderson Primary.
